James paget ward 10 video

Shots
All of the shots are well focused and are very clear and some of them are quite interesting and are genuinely good shots. The video has a variety of different shots and shot angles.
Editing
Apart from one scene towards the end the whole thing is well edited and keeps a good pace and transitions are not boring

James Paget hospital cove clinic video

Shots
A problem with the shots is that most of them are a single shot taken from one place this makes the video quite boring, many are slightly out of focus and fail to draw attention to the most important part of the scene. The lighting of these shots is often very bad as you can see from the thumbnail of the video, also the pacing of the shots is very off because we had to try and fit in everything the client wanted in such a short amount of time.
Transitions
The video transitions between scenes quite well and doesn't make use of gimmicky transition effects and the title cards we created to show names for the people being interviewed fade in and out well and look good without drawing away from the scene.
Sound
Personally i feel that the music is annoying and if anything would make people want to try to ignore the video and not pay attention to it. I believe we did very well making the audio we got usable and decent.
mise en scรจne
In the scenes the lighting wasn't very good as it was filmed in a hospital where lighting doesn't tend to be very bright we tried to counteract the effects of this by changing the saturation of our shots to make them look brighter. In many of the shots there is medical equipment in the background because of this we didn't need to arrange props to make it look like a real hospital environment.

types of brief, negotiating a brief and opportunities.

Different types of brief

Contractual: A contractual brief is a brief that the film maker signs that says the film maker must do what the brief specifies. A contractual agreement makes sure that you are guaranteed a certain amount of pay for the work you do but the work of a filmmaker can sometimes be hindered because in these agreed contractual situations filmmakers are often given deadlines for their work to be finished by also if the client changes their mind about some part of the contract there isn't anything they can do about. If you were making a huge production with an extremely large budget you would always do a contractual brief because there is too much as stake for you to risk any other type of brief

Negotiated: A negotiated brief is when the film maker may have a problem with something specified by the client and will negotiate with them on alternatives to their idea or some way to do fix your problem but keep with what the client wants. This can also happen with actors and filmmakers such as when George Lucas was making the original star wars trilogy many of the actors such as Harrison Ford advised against some very bad decisions.

Formal: The filmmaker is given a brief on what the client wants that they have both discussed and agreed on beforehand. Because the brief is discussed before hand and agreed to the filmmaker and client know what is possible and what is going to be made. A problem with this however is that if the client changes their mind then the filmmaker may refuse to make changes.

Informal: This is usually not written down, instead the client and filmmaker just discuss the requirements for what they want made. This is very bad for the client and filmmaker because there is nothing stopping the client from not paying the client because there is no proof that the client hired them to make the same goes for the film maker their is no proof that the client hired them so they can just choose not to make it.

Commission: This is where a client asks a large media company for a product the company then pays another smaller company to create it then the larger company gives the product to the client. An issue with this is that the client doesn't get much involvement with the actual creation process they just say what they want and the media handles it from there.
Tender: Is when an offer for a supply of goods is made.

Co operative: This is where there is usually two companies hired by the client and after being given the brief they begin to work together to do what the client wants. This can be an issue as the two companies may have conflicting views on what the clients product should be like.

Competition: Many different companies see the brief  and then work to complete a product using the brief and the client chooses the best one and as a reward publishes the work. The companies may put a lot of work into making a very good product only to not win and have wasted their time. An example of this is the competition launched by channel 4 to create an advert about disability to be shown before the Rio Olympics.

Negotiating a brief
We had little to no room to negotiate the brief, our client was very insistent on the way they wanted the film to be and were very specific and controlling during shooting. We were also rushed for time so the planning we could of done with the client did not happen due to us being given very little time to get to know their needs.

You as the film maker are able to interpret the brief in anyway you think is best for the client if they have not specified how they want certain parts of the film to be made, it is up to you as the film maker to take the initiative and create it as best as you can.

(We sent a link to the video and a small survey to the client to get feedback on the final product we will make changes to the product based on their response.)

The reasons that there will be amendments to the final product is because of budget, a lack of money is always an issue with productions and can put a damper on the hopes of the client and another reason is because of conditions that the client specified must be in the video. With all of the things the client wants to be in their video it can be too long when it is edited together so a lot of footage has to be cut out to fit in the things they say they must have.

Opportunities
Someone might respond to a brief because they believe they have the skill set and talent to make the ideas indicated in the brief a reality. They also may respond to it because they believe it will further their career or make them a lot of money.

I believe we had many opportunities for self improvement in this task as we learned part of what its like to work for a real client and the up and downs that come with, we also experienced some of the things that can go wrong while filming such as people walking into shot or problems with sound. We had a problem with the audio we recorded but we could not re-record it so we had to just work with what we had and find ways to make the audio sound better.

I learned how to make sounds clearer through editing and how to use adobe premier to sync up audio with video.

I contributed to the product brief by suggesting different ways in which different scenes could be shot and providing information on equipment we were using.

current practices in corporate video production

Introduction
When a film maker decides to make a video they must be aware of all of the rules constriction put on them. In this essay I will be covering all of the current practices in corporate video production such as the rules of copyright that have to be obeyed and the considerations that have to be made before deciding how and what to make also avoiding committing contempt or violating people’s privacy and the importance of avoiding being taken to court over these things.

copyright
Many film makers may want to use other peoples content in this case they need the permission of the content creator to use what they want. Such as with music the creator of the songs needs to be paid to use their song in the film or if they want to include someones likeness they need the person’s permission. The film creator must always be respectful for example if they used a clip of another film, a TV show or a certain person and showed them in a bad way they may be unhappy and take the film creator to court, because of these film creators must always be clear about what they want to do with the content. An example of copy right is in the vimplecom advert made by trett films which features royalty free music (music free of copyright).

privacy
People’s privacy must always be taken into consideration because if a film studio were to leak a person’s private information not only would it be harmful to the person but it could result in lawsuits and distrust against the film producer which will cause huge problems for them. for example, during the filming of terminator salvation Christian Bale got very angry with a member of the production crew going on a long insulting rant, it was recorded and went viral over the internet. This should never have left the set and made Christian Bale unlikable to many people. A corporate video example would be that in PG tips adverts it doesn't show any aspects of the actor, Johnny Vegas' real daily life.

defamation
Defamation is the act of ruining someone’s good name or slandering them this can happen sometimes in film production by accident for example referring back to the Christian Bale rant incident previously mentioned in the privacy segment, this also counts as defamation because it helped to slander his reputation and provoked a lot of bad mouthing towards Bale.

fair use
Fair use is the idea that short clips of copyrighted material can be used without breaking copyright or needing the permission of the creator laws for purposes of review, criticism or education many YouTube content creators use this to make interesting and entertaining videos. In this corporate video it shows random clips in a certain amount of time all of which are fair use to educate people on what fair use actually is. In lesson we watched many videos detailing what fair use is and why it is important.

Ethical
Whether something is ethical means whether it is morally okay to do for example it is unethical for a film maker to film a scene where someone gets hurt and purposefully hurt their actor to make it more real. Being ethical is very important because being unethical tends to be pretty close to breaking the law the film tropic thunder made a lot of people angry who believed that a lot of its content was morally questionable such as its portrayal of the mentally disabled, its portrayal of cocaine addiction being comedic and many were angry that Robert Downey Junior (a white man) played a black man in the movie instead of them hiring a black actor. In corporate video this happens sometimes for example in the previously mentioned vimplecom advert by trettfilms skirts had to be edited into a shot to make the video more gender diverse.

Releases
Film producers need releases signed for the actors these releases usually make the film producer exempt from any injuries or problems the actors may have. The film producer also needs releases for locations and materials so that they know they are free to use them. For example, in the 2015 John Lewis "man on the moon" Christmas ad in which a little girl and old man play characters. These actors will have had to sign releases to protect themselves should bad things happen.Image result for film actor release form

Technologies
There are many different cameras and other technologies like software to be used with a wide range of prices and qualities it can be difficult for corporate videos to get good quality footage if they can’t afford a good quality camera such as canon DSLR cameras luckily these cameras aren’t very expensive and are very good quality. The most commonly used models are the 600D model and the 700D model the only difference between these two models is that the 700D has auto focus. You also have black magic cameras which are able to film in 2.5K and some in 4K the most high end resolutions you can buy. Some shots in corporate video would be impossible without drones, the most popular drone being the DJI phantom 4 a powerful drone which is claimed on their website to be able to travel up to 19685 feet above sea level and has an on board camera that can record in 4K it is an amazing piece of technology for any film maker. Film makers also need software like premier pro and after effects to change their films.
