current practices in corporate video production

Introduction
When a film maker decides to make a video they must be aware of all of the rules constriction put on them. In this essay I will be covering all of the current practices in corporate video production such as the rules of copyright that have to be obeyed and the considerations that have to be made before deciding how and what to make also avoiding committing contempt or violating people’s privacy and the importance of avoiding being taken to court over these things.

copyright
Many film makers may want to use other peoples content in this case they need the permission of the content creator to use what they want. Such as with music the creator of the songs needs to be paid to use their song in the film or if they want to include someones likeness they need the person’s permission. The film creator must always be respectful for example if they used a clip of another film, a TV show or a certain person and showed them in a bad way they may be unhappy and take the film creator to court, because of these film creators must always be clear about what they want to do with the content. An example of copy right is in the vimplecom advert made by trett films which features royalty free music (music free of copyright).

privacy
People’s privacy must always be taken into consideration because if a film studio were to leak a person’s private information not only would it be harmful to the person but it could result in lawsuits and distrust against the film producer which will cause huge problems for them. for example, during the filming of terminator salvation Christian Bale got very angry with a member of the production crew going on a long insulting rant, it was recorded and went viral over the internet. This should never have left the set and made Christian Bale unlikable to many people. A corporate video example would be that in PG tips adverts it doesn't show any aspects of the actor, Johnny Vegas' real daily life.

defamation
Defamation is the act of ruining someone’s good name or slandering them this can happen sometimes in film production by accident for example referring back to the Christian Bale rant incident previously mentioned in the privacy segment, this also counts as defamation because it helped to slander his reputation and provoked a lot of bad mouthing towards Bale.

fair use
Fair use is the idea that short clips of copyrighted material can be used without breaking copyright or needing the permission of the creator laws for purposes of review, criticism or education many YouTube content creators use this to make interesting and entertaining videos. In this corporate video it shows random clips in a certain amount of time all of which are fair use to educate people on what fair use actually is. In lesson we watched many videos detailing what fair use is and why it is important.

Ethical
Whether something is ethical means whether it is morally okay to do for example it is unethical for a film maker to film a scene where someone gets hurt and purposefully hurt their actor to make it more real. Being ethical is very important because being unethical tends to be pretty close to breaking the law the film tropic thunder made a lot of people angry who believed that a lot of its content was morally questionable such as its portrayal of the mentally disabled, its portrayal of cocaine addiction being comedic and many were angry that Robert Downey Junior (a white man) played a black man in the movie instead of them hiring a black actor. In corporate video this happens sometimes for example in the previously mentioned vimplecom advert by trettfilms skirts had to be edited into a shot to make the video more gender diverse.

Releases
Film producers need releases signed for the actors these releases usually make the film producer exempt from any injuries or problems the actors may have. The film producer also needs releases for locations and materials so that they know they are free to use them. For example, in the 2015 John Lewis "man on the moon" Christmas ad in which a little girl and old man play characters. These actors will have had to sign releases to protect themselves should bad things happen.Image result for film actor release form

Technologies
There are many different cameras and other technologies like software to be used with a wide range of prices and qualities it can be difficult for corporate videos to get good quality footage if they can’t afford a good quality camera such as canon DSLR cameras luckily these cameras aren’t very expensive and are very good quality. The most commonly used models are the 600D model and the 700D model the only difference between these two models is that the 700D has auto focus. You also have black magic cameras which are able to film in 2.5K and some in 4K the most high end resolutions you can buy. Some shots in corporate video would be impossible without drones, the most popular drone being the DJI phantom 4 a powerful drone which is claimed on their website to be able to travel up to 19685 feet above sea level and has an on board camera that can record in 4K it is an amazing piece of technology for any film maker. Film makers also need software like premier pro and after effects to change their films.
