My evaluation of our video "the drop"

The drop: what was included and not included

  • Mise en scene means what is in the scene and everything in a shot has been thought about and all persons involved in production have contributed to it everything in the scene is there for a reason and can be analysed. We had costumes and prop guns and we used these props and set up our scenes to create an intense environment.

  • Lighting is used to set the tone of a scene. We tried to use the bright sun as ambient light (naturally occurring light) lighting for our advantage, this did not work however as it caused a shot to be over exposed and difficult to see detail lighting is used to make things easier to see and to show that a scene is bright and happy.

  • High and low camera angles are used in scenes a high camera angle would be used to show weakness and a low camera angle would be used to show power .We had high and low camera angles for establishing shots and close ups to stay within the guidelines of our assigned task and show power and largeness in certain scenes.

  • Different shot distances are shots taken from various distances from the scene these are used to establish where the scene is taking place.

  • Camera movement is when the camera moves to follow or rotate around something in the scene. these are used to show the entirety of a scene, object or person or to setup the next shot without having to edit between the shots.

  • Fades and dissolves are used to cut between scenes, in a fade the previous scene will slowly fade into the next one and in a dissolve the previous scene will slowly dissolve away. We did not include fades or dissolves.

  • Continuity is the idea of basically having things make sense within the world of the film and is defined as the continuous action and self- consistent detail in a scene of a film. We made sure that we had no errors in continuity by looking over our footage extensively during editing.

  • The 180 degree rule is the rule that you can have rotation as long as it does not exceed 180 degrees we included one 180 degree rotation to show the distance between two actors.

  • establishing shots are used to show the location of a scene, the characters in the scene and the ideas being used in the scene, these shots are usually taken far away from the scene to fit everything in the scene into the shot.

  • eye line match cuts are when a character is shown and then we are shown what they are looking at through their point of view. We used this in a scene to show a characters face and emotion and their point of view.
